On the occasion of 1160 years since the baptism of the Bulgarian people and 1170 years since the creation of the Bulgarian alphabet and Slavic literature, Bishop Gerasim of Melnik, Secretary General of the Holy Synod read a patriarchal and synodal message at the conciliar holy liturgy in the Dormition of the Mother of God Cathedral in Varna. “The independent Orthodox Church, our alphabet and writing, spirituality, literature and rich culture preserve us to this day as a people with our own face before the world and with our proven and universally recognized contribution to the European and world spiritual and cultural treasury,”said Bishop Gerasim.
