PM Borissov: Pressure at Border Is Strong, but Control Is Tight
Malko Turnovo, Southeastern Bulgaria, August 4 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov on Saturday visited the border police department in the town of Malko Turnovo to familiarize himself with the situation and the available equipment there.
Borissov said that over 2,500 migrants have been repatriated in nearly a year.
The Prime Minister said that from Monday another 40 border policemen will be deployed at the border plus 50 officers from the special forces. Also, 70 new vehicles will be purchased in addition to the 180 that were donated.
Borissov said he was pleased with the effort and added that there are 200 migrants in the centres across the country. "We all sleep peacefully and we owe it to the border policemen who are controlling the borders non-stop," said the Prime Minister.
He added that the best efforts will be recognized.
On Friday night two large groups of migrants were detained, said Borissov.

Roumiana Arnaoudova, a spokesperson for the Prosecutor General said that Dimiter the Eyes Zhelyazkov, was detained in Istanbul on the night to Saturday. His arrest follows the dismantling of a crime ring involved in drug pushing, extortion, and arson, masterminded by Zhelyazkov, according to the investigators. Arnaoudova said that Zhelyazkov entered into Turkey from Greece. She thanked the Turkish authorities for the swift and professional actions.
She said that Zhelyazkov will remain in a Turkish jail during his extradition procedure.
The Prime Minister said that Turkey's interior minister and prosecutor general assisted with the detention of Zhelyazkov. Borissov said that Bulgaria has already launched an extradition procedure.
