Central Election Commission Urges Parties to Staff Mobile Voting Stations
Sofia, April 1 (BTA) - The Central Election Commission (CEC) has
urged parties to find people who will staff the mobile voting
stations for COVID-19 patients. CEC Spokesperson Dimiter
Dimitrov recalled at a news briefing on Thursday that the
appointment of section election commissions is made at a
proposal of parties.
People who have been placed under quarantine on Thursday, Friday
and Saturday, or some 15,000 persons, won't be able to vote.
There is no aggregate data about the number of such stations in
the country, but in smaller regional centres, a mobile voting
station can service on average 20 people under quarantine.
During the new briefing it emerged that the lack of a central
register is the reason why the Commission has no data about the
number of quarantined and isolated voters who have filed
applications to vote at a mobile station. They are set up on
Thursday and Friday and the exact number will become known on
election day. It appears that mobile voting stations are hard to
staff especially in larger cities.
The deadline for submitting applications expired on March 31.
People who have been quarantined at an address which is
different from their permanent or current address won't be able
to vote if they have applied to vote at their current address by
March 20 as regional health inspectorates are not authorized to
set up lists.
Eighty-eight hospitals will have voting sections for COVID-19
patients.
Across the country there will be a total of 11,983 voting
sections and 9,389 will have voting machines.
There are 6895 MP candidates.
Five foreign media will cover the elections: AFP, Reuters,
Associated Press, Al Jazeera and Kanal 5 (North Macedonia), said
Dimitrov.
Twenty-eight organizations and 3,401 persons have been
registered as observers so far. NV/PP
