MRF Will Not Support a GERB or BSP Government but Will Support Cabinet by New Parties in Parliament

April 9 (BTA) - The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) will not
support a government of GERB or the Bulgarian Socialist Party
(BSP) but will back a cabinet proposal by the new parties in
Parliament. Announcing the party position at a news conference
here Friday after a meeting of the MRF Central Bureau, MRF
leader Mustafa Karadayi said they will support a government with
clear goals, put forward by the newcomers in Parliament - There
Is Such a People (TISP), Democratic Bulgaria (DB) and Rise Up!
Thugs Out! (RUTO) - but will not participate in it.
Karadayi added that if the three fail to form a cabinet, MRF is
ready for snap elections.
He was adamant that MRF achieved a very good result in the
elections and was the only party of the last National Assembly
to increase its result. While the other two main parties, GERB
and BSP, lost over 300,000 and 450,000 votes, respectively, MRF
has broadened its support by more than 20,000 votes, Karadayi
added.
He said that an analysis of the final results announced by the
Election Commission earlier on Friday shows that MRF did not
lose any of the seats it had in the previous National Assembly.
In his words, the elections showed that Bulgarians voted for a
change.
MRF started the change from within, nominating the youngest
candidates on its lists and proposing a programme for the
country's stepped up development, the party leader said.
Commenting the imminent difficulty in forming a cabinet that any
party in the new Parliament will have with this distribution of
seats, Karadayi again argued in favour of a programmatic
government and said a programmatic government should be tasked
with handing the COVID-19 crisis, implement economic and social
measures to support people and businesses, prepare and submit
the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and prepare for the
next programming period and its EU-funded operational
programmes.
Karadayi commented that for the first time in the last 30 years
Bulgaria is in a situation when it can expect new elections
immediately after its parliamentary elections. Early elections
are within the powers of the President, he added.
''Let's see what the President's logic is if such a situation
occurs and new elections are scheduled, then we will also think
about it,'' Karadayi commented.
''MRF calls on all parties and coalitions of the 45th National
Assembly for dialogue and responsibility,'' Karadayi said. NV/DT
