Christina de Bruin Appointed UNICEF's New Representative for Bulgaria
June 10 (BTA) - Christina Dorothea de Bruin is the new
representative of UNICEF for Bulgaria, the organization said on
Thursday. Under her guidance, UNICEF Bulgaria will continue to
work with its national partners, civil society and the private
sector to improve the life of children in Bulgaria. Christina de
Bruin presented her credentials at the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs on June 9.
De Bruin said it was an honour for her to represent UNICEF in
Bulgaria, adding that she was eager to work with the government
and partners to build a better future for each child. UNICEF
holds in high esteem Bulgaria's global commitment and active
role in upholding the rights of children, as well as its work as
Co-Chair of the Group of Friends for Children and Sustainable
Development Goals, as well as its participation in the UN
Security Council, she added.
Christina de Bruin has over 20 years of experience as an
international official working for children. She has years of
work in humanitarian aid and development, including at the
UNICEF headquarters. Before coming to Bulgaria, she was Deputy
Director at the UNICEF Brussels Office.
In Bulgaria, she is taking up the position from Dr. Jane Muita
who is retiring after many years in UNICEF, the last three of
which in Bulgaria.
Christina de Bruin is a national of The Netherlands. She holds a
Bachelor of Arts degree in European Human Rights Law and she
graduated from the University of Leiden in the Netherlands with
a Master's degree in Public Policy and Public Administration.
