Sofia University Distinguishes Bulgarian News Agency for Its Diligent, Purposeful Coverage of Challenges before Literary Language

Sofia, June 10 (BTA) - The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) was
distinguished on Thursday by the Faculty of Slavic Studies of
Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski for its diligent and
purposeful coverage of the current challenges before the
Bulgarian literary language. The honorary diploma was handed to
BTA Director General Kiril Valchev by Assoc. Prof. Nadezhda
Stalyanova of the Slavic Studies faculty.

The ceremony took place in the aula of Sofia University, and it
also distinguished the national television (BNT) and radio
(BNR), and other media for their responsible attitude toward the
 Bulgarian language.

"The Bulgarian News Agency is bound by law to protect and
popularize the literary Bulgarian language, but we have an even
greater obligation to do so, because this is a 123-year-old
agency, the oldest Bulgarian media," said BTA Director General
Kiril Valchev at the ceremony. He called on journalists and
their interlocutors to stop conversing on familiar terms, which
is annoying to the audience, and to promote a spirit of mutual
respect instead.
