Socialist Party Mandates Leader to Participate in Talks on Cabinet Formation

Sofia, November 20 (BTA) - The National Council of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) Saturday mandated leader Kornelia Ninova to participate in talks on cabinet formation, the party said. The decision was made by a vote of 103 in favour and 19 against.
Ninova is to hold her post as Chairperson until a congress scheduled for January 22, 2022 accepts her resignation. She resigned on November 16 in the wake of the November 14 elections as her party slipped from third to fourth place in Parliament on 10.21 per cent of the vote.
Ninova announced her resignation after a meeting of the party's Executive Bureau, which called the BSP's showing "a disaster". "I take all responsibility," she said.
The election winner, Continue the Change, which garnered 25.67 per cent of the vote, is starting expert consultations on the formation of a cabinet on November 23. Three parliamentary forces, There Is Such a People, BSP and Democratic Bulgaria, will participate in the meetings with their best policy experts. There will be 18 expert groups discussing the following sectors: Energy, Economy, Transport, Justice, Healthcare, Education, Electronic Government, Agriculture, Home Affairs, Environment, Regional Development, Culture, Labour and Social Affairs, Tourism, National Security, Sport, Finances and International Relations.
