GERB Leader Borissov Says Party will be Constructive, Well-intentioned Opposition in New Parliament
November 27 (BTA) - Speaking at a seminar of the youth chapter of the GERB political party here on Saturday, GERB leader and former prime minister Boyko Borissov said that "there could have been a very stable government involving the non-establishment parties and the alliance of GERB and the Union of Democratic Forces (GERB-UDF) coalition".
For the first time in several elections, GERB and its coalition partner emerged as the formation with the second highest number of seats in the new Parliament elected at the November 21 snap poll. GERB-UDF was overtaken by the Continue the Change (CC) formation set up only a few months ago by former caretaker cabinet members Kiril Petkov and Assen Vassilev.
CC is currently holding talks on a coalition agreement with three parties in the new National Assembly: There is Such a People, the Bulgarian Socialist Party, and the Democratic Bulgaria alliance. Three parties in Parliament: GERB-UDF, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, and Vazrazhdane, were not invited to take part in the talks.
Borissov also said that GERB-UDF will be a constructive and well-intentioned opposition and will support the motions in Parliament of the so-called parties of the change.
Borissov said that GERB will ask Parliament to pass a moratorium on the assumption of a new government debt. ZH
