Specialized Prosecution Office Rejects to Initiate Pre-trial Proceedings against Prosecutor General

November 29 (BTA) - The Specialized Prosecution Office (SPO) has rejected to initiate pre-trial proceedings against Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev on alert by Interior Minister Boyko Rashkov, SPO's spokesperson Hristo Krastev told BTA on Monday.

The supervising prosecutor has concluded that there is no data of a criminal offence committed by Geshev. A copy of the decision has been sent to Rashkov, who has not yet filed an application against it.

SPO magistrates and employees of the Public Communication Directorate at the Prosecutor General's Office have been questioned over the course of the investigation.

On July 27, Rashkov told the media that he has contacted the director of the National Investigation Service (NIS), Borislav Sarafov, about crimes committed by Geshev. The signal to Sarafov contained some of the materials sent to Justice Minister Yanaki Stoilov, based on which he referred to the Supreme Judicial Council a proposal for the dismissal of Geshev from the post of Prosecutor General. The materials are related to the disclosure of data from special surveillance means and the publication of selected materials from a chat correspondence by the prosecution service. RY/KK
