Weightlifting: Bulgaria's Karlos Nasar Wins World Title in 81 Kg in Tashkent, Sets New World Record

Tashkent, December 12 (BTA) - Bulgaria's Karlos Nasar won the world title in his 81 weight class at the World Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on Sunday. He topped the total ranking with 374 kg.

Nasar was last to start his attempts in the snatch event, and lifted 163 kg winning silver, only 2 kg less than the gold winner, Marin Robou.

In the clean&jerk event, the Bulgarian was unbeatable: 200 kg in first attempt, 205 kg in second and finally 208 kg, which set a new world record for youths, juniors and seniors.

It is the first world title for Bulgaria since 2007 when Ivan Stoitsov won in the 77 kg weight class in Thailand.

Nasar was born on May 2, 2004 in the northern town of Cherven Bryag. His first major international event, the 2018 European championship in Milan, brought him gold and the European title.
