Prosecutors Insist that High-profile Money Laundering Suspect Be Questioned before a Judge without Delay

Sofia, December 22 (BTA) - The Prosecutor's Office wants Borislav Kolev, a suspect in a money laundering scheme using the construction of the Hemus Motorway, to be questioned before a judge without delay, its press office said on Wednesday in a statement.

On Tuesday, in the presence of his lawyer, Kolev gave detailed explanations, pointing out specific persons who are involved in the possible crime. The interrogation was also attended by the Prosecutor General at the request of Kolev himself, and before that he spoke with Interior Minister Boyko Rashkov.

In view of the circumstances set out by Kolev, the supervising prosecutors have given detailed instructions to the Ministry of the Interior to identify the persons he had named, as well as the companies associated with them.

If enough evidence is gathered about the guilt of other persons, they will be brought in as defendants and they will be imposed adequate distraint measures, corresponding to the public danger they pose, the release says.

In addition, prosecutors will personally carry out a number of investigative actions, despite the fact that the case is still in the Sofia Appellate Court, which detained Kolev yesterday.

A proposal has been made to bring the case under the special supervision of the Sofia Prosecutor's Office of Appeals and the Supreme Prosecutor's Office of Cassation.
