Employers' Organizations Demand Urgent Convening of National Security Advisory Council, Meeting with Prime Minister on Price of Electricity
December 28 (BTA) - Representatives of employers' organizations at the national level demanded an urgent convening of the National Security Advisory Council and a meeting with Prime Minister Kiril Petkov due to the extremely difficult situation with electricity prices, said the Bulgaria Industrial Capital Association (BICA).
"The measures proposed by the Minister of Energy do not work as the situation has changed, the proposal for a ceiling to compensate for energy costs will have devastating consequences for our economy. The situation regarding the price of electricity for non-household consumers is much more threatening for our economy than the 2009 financial crisis. It is expected the average price for December this year to significantly exceed that for November ", stated BICA.
The position cites data according to which the offers of neighboring European markets and transactions on the "Bilateral Contracts" market on the Bulgarian electricity exchange for the first two months of 2022 are over 700 leva per megawatt-hour.
Employers' organizations do not rule out that the average prices may exceed 1,000 leva per megawatt-hour. "Extremely fast, concentrated and coordinated actions of state institutions are needed to avoid the possibility that many of the first echelon and structural determinant enterprises not resume operations in early 2022, which would lead to a chain effect," the letter said.
The request of the nationally represented employers' organizations was sent to President Rumen Radev and Prime Minister Kiril Petkov. DT//
