Sofia, January 11 (BTA) - The Plenum of the Supreme Court of Cassation (SCC) strongly supports the candidate for president of the court Galina Zaharova, the SCC press centre said on Tuesday.   

The Plenum heard Judge Zaharova on January 10 and expressed the opinion that she possessed the qualities under Art. 170, para. 4 and para. 5 of the Judiciary Act - has high professional and moral qualities and meets the requirements for seniority; high ethical standard; high professional competence; declared independence, the will to impose the rule of law, determination in the performance of official duties and contribution to the establishment of the rule of law and others. Galina Zaharova received support from all 80 supreme judges who took part in the vote.      

Judge Zaharova is the only candidate for SCC president and her candidacy was nominated by the General Assembly of Judges of the Supreme Court of Cassation. The Supreme Judicial Council is scheduled to hear the candidate and hold a vote on January 14.
