COVID-19 Update: 7,062 New Cases, Test Positivity Rate at 18.6%
Sofia, January 12 (BTA) - The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Bulgaria reached 794,240, after 37,952 tests identified 7,062 new infections on Tuesday, 74 per cent of which were of unvaccinated persons, according to data posted on https://coronavirus.bg/. The test positivity rate now stands at 18.6 per cent.
Sofia tops the list of new cases with 2,402 positive tests, followed by Burgas with 694 cases and Blagoevgrad with 597.
The active cases are 140,224. Currently, the hospitalized patients number 5,240, including 580 in intensive care. Of the 627 hospital admissions, 84 per cent were not vaccinated.
The infected medical staff have reached 18,540.
Another 1,323 COVID-19 patients have recovered over the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 622,255.
Eighty-nine fatalities were reported (92 per cent unvaccinated), and the death toll now adds up to 31,761.
With 31,986 new inoculations over the last 24 hours, 3,911,536 vaccine doses have been administered so far, 1,950,188 people are fully vaccinated, and 429,266 have received a booster jab.

Twelve of Bulgaria's 28 regions are currently in the dark-red zone in terms of COVID-19 infections on a two-week basis, show data from the National Center of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases.
