European Public Prosecutor's Office Appoints One, Rejects One Bulgarian Nominee for European Delegated Prosecutor
January 12 (BTA correspondent Nikolay Jelizakov) -
The College of the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO)
announced on Wednesday that it had adopted two decisions,
approving one and rejecting one nominee for European Delegated
Prosecutor (EDP) of the EPPO in Bulgaria.
Kyustendil Deputy District Prosecutor Ivaylo Iliev was appointed
EDP for a renewable period of 5 years.
Pernik Deputy District Prosecutor Anita Dzhamalova' nomination
was rejected as the candidate does not meet all requirements set
out in the EPPO Regulation.
In October 2021, the EPPO College appointed four EDP candidates
from Bulgaria: prosecutors Anna Aleksova, Viktor Tarchev and
Stanislav Stoykov of the Sofia City Prosecution Office and judge
Elena Popova of the Specialized Criminal Court.
Bulgaria is entitled to ten EDP positions at the EPPO, and
Wednesday's decisions leave one Bulgarian EDP vacancy unfilled,
after the EPPO College in April 2021 rejected six of the ten
EDPs proposed by Bulgaria as not meeting the eligibility
criteria, and the Supreme Judicial Council Prosecutors Chamber
approved six new candidates in September 2021. RY/LG
