Counter-Corruption Commission Launches Investigation Against Municipality of Lukovit

January 13 (BTA) - The Counter-Corruption and Unlawfully Acquired Assets Forfeiture Commission (CCUAA) launched an investigation in the northern municipality of Lukovit following alerts about senior public officials, who were allegedly involved in illegal activities, CCUAA said here on Thursday.

CCUAA is investigating a public procurement contract (9 mln. leva) for road construction and repair, awarded by the Municipality of Lukovit. A senior municipal official is under investigation as he is allegedly linked with the companies that were awarded the contract.

The Counter-Corruption Commission is also investigating a possible EU funds fraud with subsidies for a guest house in the village of Daben, Municipality of Lukovit, which supposedly did not function as a guest house, as well as the retrofitting of the sports hall in Lukovit, financed under the National Programme for Energy Efficiency. According to the alert, the contractor who retrofitted the sports hall is a relative to a senior public official.

Furthermore, CCUAA is investigating the sale of municipal farm land at significantly reduced prices. The buyers are supposedly linked to a senior public official, as well.
