Airports in Seaside Varna, Bourgas Handle 17,000+ Flights in 2021
February 7 (BTA) - In 2021 the airports
in Varna and Bourgas, on the Black Sea, welcomed more than two
million passengers and handled more than 17,000 flights of 70
Bulgarian and foreign airlines, Fraport Twin Star Airport
Management, the German-Bulgarian owner of the concessions for
the two airports, said on Monday. The increase in the number of
passengers at the two airports compared to 2020 was 89 per cent.
In 2021, 50 airlines carried out flights to 67 destinations from
the Varna Airport. A little over one million passengers went
through the airport. The biggest number of them were from
Germany, Bulgaria, Poland, Britain, and Austria. The Varna
Airport handled 9,239 flights, 6,853 out of which were regular
flights, and 1,275 chartered flights.
In 2021 the Bourgas Airport handled 947,000 passengers, 129 per
cent more than in 2020. Forty-nine airlines carried out flights
to 70 destinations from the Bourgas Airport. Most of the
passengers arriving at the Bourgas Airport were from Poland, the
Czech Republic, Germany, Russia, and Britain. In 2021, the
Bourgas Airport handled 8,295 flights, 4,702 of which were
regular flights.
The data for January 2022 indicate tangible growths in the
number of passengers compared to January 2021: 339 per cent for
the Bourgas Airport, and 133 per cent for the Varna Airport.
Most of the air passengers arriving in Bourgas were from Russia,
Britain and Bulgaria, while most of those arriving in Varna
were from Germany, Bulgaria, Britain, Austria, and the
