Bulgarian Museums Report 3 Per Cent Increase in Admissions for 2014, Year on Year
Sofia, May 24 (BTA) - In 2014, museums in Bulgaria logged
4,781,000 admissions, up 3.0 per cent from 2013, the National
Statistical Institute reported. As many as 764,000 visitors or
approximately one-sixth of the total came on days of
free-of-charge admission. Last year foreigners' visits increased
by 10,000 or 1.3 per cent from 2013., May 24 (BTA) - In 2014, museums in Bulgaria logged
4,781,000 admissions, up 3.0 per cent from 2013, the National
Statistical Institute reported. As many as 764,000 visitors or
approximately one-sixth of the total came on days of
free-of-charge admission. Last year foreigners' visits increased
by 10,000 or 1.3 per cent from 2013.
Two hundred and four museums registered under the Cultural
Heritage Act operated in Bulgaria by December 31, 2014: 86
general and 118 specialized (including art galleries). In
aggregate, they held 7,600,000 items of movable cultural
property, 1.9 per cent more than a year earlier. Of these,
290,000 items were digitized, 15,000 more than in 2013.
In 2014, the museums' revenues totalled 44,105,000 leva, an
increase of 3 per cent from the previous year. The revenues
broke down by source as follows: budget subsidy 33,079,000 leva
(75 per cent), admissions 6,643,000 leva (15.1 per cent), and EU
programmes and projects 547,000 leva (1.2 per cent).
Last year the museums employed a staff of 3,106, up 8.6 per cent
from 2013.
In 2014 the museums used 1,212 computers for administrative
purposes, 600 to store databases, and 134 to provide information
to visitors.
