Director Eliza Petkova's "Zhaleika" Wins Grand Prix of 20th Sofia Film Fest

Sofia, March 20 (BTA) - The film of Bulgarian director Eliza Petkova, "Zhaleika" (Germany) won the Sofia City of Film Grand Prix of the 20th Sofia International Film Festival. The film's director and producer received a diploma and a cash prize of 7,000 euro provided by Sofia Municipality.

LIDL AUDIENCE AWARD: "My Father, My Mother, My Sister" (Bulgaria), directed by Dimitar Kotsev-Shosho

SPECIAL JURY AWARD: "The Summer of Frozen Fountains" (Georgia/Russia), directed by Vano Burduli

AWARD FOR BEST DIRECTOR: Tomas Weinreb and Petr Kazda, "I, Olga Hepnarova"

AWARD FOR BEST BULGARIAN FEATURE FILM: "Thirst" (Bulgaria), directed by Svetla Tsotsorkova

JAMESON AWARD FOR BEST BULGARIAN SHORT FILM: "Red Light" (Bulgaria), directed by Toma Vasharov

AWARD FOR BEST DOCUMENTARY: "Mr. Gaga" (Israel/Sweden/Germany/The Netherlands), directed by Tomer Heymann

BEST BALKAN FILM AWARD: "Frenzy" (Turkey/France/Qatar), directed by Emin Alper

FIPRESCI AWARD: "Rauf" (Turkey), directed by Soner Caner and Baris Kaya

UBFM'S FILM CRITICS GUILD AWARD: "Losers" (Bulgaria) by Ivaylo Hristov

YOUNG JURY AWARD: "The Lure" (Poland), directed by Agnieszka Smoczynska

The Documentary Jury handed a Special Mention to "Cambridge" (Bulgaria) by Eldora Traykova and to "The Ground We Won" (New Zealand) by Cristopher Pryor. The Balkan Jury handed a Special Mention "Nausea" (Turkey) by Zeki Demirkubuz. Another Special Mention went to Angela Nedyalkova for her role in "The Paradise Suite" (The Netherlands/Sweden/Bulgaria).

A total of 210 films from 58 countries competed in the 20th Sofia Film Fest. The foreign guests included 268 directors, producers, actors, festival directors, and media and cinema experts.
