Foreigners' Visits to Bulgaria Up 9.1 Per Cent in January 2020, Year on Year

Febrary 27 (BTA) - In January 2020, Bulgarian residents
made 423,100 trips abroad, or 5.1 per cent more than in January
2019, the National Statistical Institute reported on Thursday.
In January 2020, the destinations that attracted the largest
number of trips by Bulgarian citizens were Turkey (87,300),
Greece (83,400), Serbia (38,700), North Macedonia (28,200),
Romania (25,800), Germany (21,200), Austria (16,600), Spain
(15,900), Italy (14,300), and the UK (14,300).
Sofia, February 27 (BTA) - In January 2020, 604,600 foreigners
arrived in Bulgaria from abroad, or 9.1 per cent more than in
January 2019. The number of trips for all monitored purposes
increased: as guests and for transit by 12.4 per cent, for
holiday and recreation by 8.3 per cent, and for a professional
purpose by 3.6 per cent. Transits (125,600) accounted for 20.8
per cent of all visits by foreigners to Bulgaria.

ЕU citizens represented 45.7 per cent of the total number of
foreigners who visited Bulgaria in January 2020 (3.9 per cent
more, year on year). Visits by foreigners from countries in
Europe outside the EU grew by 14.3 per cent, and the largest
increase in this group (22.7 per cent) was recorded by citizens
of Turkey. In January 2020, visits for holiday and recreation
predominated (42.9 per cent), followed by trips for other
purposes (40.3 per cent) and for a professional purpose (16.8
per cent).

In January 2020, most visits to Bulgaria were made by citizens
of Turkey (120,700), Greece (98,800), North Macedonia (71,800),
Romania (71,300), Serbia (42,000, the UK (22,500), Germany
(18,200), Ukraine (18,000), Israel (15,000), and Italy (13,500).
