Sofia, February 28 (BTA) - The profit of Bulgaria's banking system in January 2020 amounted to 52 million leva, which was 25 million leva (32.3 per cent) less than the profit earned in January 2019, the Bulgarian National Bank reported on Friday.
The end-of-January equity on the banking system's balance sheet amounted to 14.4 billion leva, with a growth of 43 million leva (0.3 per cent) compared to the previous month.
In January 2020 the assets of the banking system decreased by 108 million leva (0.1 per cent) to 114.1 billion leva.
At the end of January, the liquidity buffer of the banking system amounted to 29.0 billion leva, and the net liquidity outflows were 11.2 billion leva. The liquidity coverage ratio decreased slightly from 269.9 per cent as of end-December 2019 to 259.8 per cent at the end of the reporting month (with a minimum required level of 100 per cent).
Gross loans and advances at the end of January 2020 recorded no significant growth. They amounted to 94.5 billion leva, or 16 million leva more than at the end of December 2019. The claims on the central banks sector decreased by 975 million leva (7.2 per cent), and those on credit institutions increased by 705 million leva (4.8 per cent).
The gross loan portfolio grew by 286 million leva (0.4 per cent). Loans to non-financial corporations recorded a growth of 190 million leva (0.5 per cent), and those to households - of 147 million leva (0.6 per cent). Claims on the general government sector and on other financial corporations decreased
by 7 million leva (0.7 per cent) and 45 million leva (1.0 per cent), respectively.
Compared to December 2019, deposits in the banking system decreased by 492 million leva (0.5 per cent). In absolute terms, the greatest reduction was registered for deposits of non-financial corporations, down by 764 million leva (2.7 per cent), followed by those of other financial corporations, down by 506 million leva (14.8 per cent). Deposits of credit institutions, households and the general government sector grew by 410 million leva (7.7 per cent), 200 million leva (0.3 per cent) and 167 million leva (6.3 per cent), respectively.
