2020 Wheat Harvest Totals 4.6 Million Tonnes - Agriculture Ministry
September 4 (BTA) - The 2020 wheat harvest totals 
4,626,318 tonnes, the Agriculture, Food and Forestry Ministry 
said on Friday, citing data after the end of the harvesting 
campaign. A total of 1,176,048 ha of land had been put under 
wheat this year. The average yield is 3,930 kg/ha. The highest 
yield stood at 5,000 kg/ha, reported in Northwestern and and 
North Central Bulgaria. The harvested wheat is of good 
bread-making quality. 
A total of 560,037 tonnes of barley were harvested, from 138,059
 ha. The average yield stood at 4,060 kg/ha. 
A total of 257,614 tonnes of rapeseed were harvested, from 
114,732 ha. The average yield stood at 2,250 kg/ha.
The draught during last autumn and this spring caused major 
damage to crops. 
Some 10,718 ha were reported as totally failed areas due to 
draughts, freezes, and hailstorm damage. Of these, 8,489 ha were
 wheat crops, 422 ha barley, and 1,798 ha rapeseed. 
The worst-hit areas from the draught were Bourgas, Dobrich, 
Varna, Sliven and Shoumen. RY/ZH
