Bulgarian Courts Examine Nearly 645,000 Cases in 2020
April 13 (BTA) - Bulgaria's appellate, military,
district, regional and administrative courts have examined a
total of 644,471 cases in 2020, the Supreme Judicial Council
(SJC) reported here on Tuesday, referring to aggregated
statistical tables on the courts' caseload that have been
adopted by the SJC Judges Chamber.
Of these cases, 510,341 were newly instituted and the rest were
pending at the beginning of the period.
Of the 507,944 cases disposed last year, 82 per cent were
completed within three months. A total of 422,789 cases were
adjudged on the merits, 85,155 were dismissed, and 73,266 were
appealed by the defence and/or the prosecution. The cases
pending at the end of 2020 numbered 136,527.
In 2020, the courts employed 2,256 full-time judges, and they
had to examine an average of 28.38 cases per judge. RY/LG
