Q1 Turnover in Travel Agency, Tour Operator Services Down Nearly 54% from Year Earlier
May 21 (BTA) - In the first quarter of 2021, the total
turnover index, working day adjusted, in transportation, storage
and post rose by 1.9 per cent compared to the same quarter of
2020, according to preliminary data of the National Statistical
Institute. The largest increase, by 25.3 per cent, was observed
in postal and courier activities. A 25.9 per cent drop was seen
in air transport.
In other business services the largest increase compared to the
first quarter of 2020 was observed in architectural and
engineering activities; technical testing and analysis, by 27.9
per cent, and in employment activities by 15.1 per cent. A 53.7
per cent decrease was registered in travel agency, tour operator
and other reservation service and related activities.
The total working day adjusted turnover index in information and
communication rose by 15.8 per cent compared to the first
quarter of 2020. The largest increase, by 21.3 per cent, was
seen in computer programming, consultancy and related
activities. Turnover increases were also registered in
information service activities by 18.0 per cent, and in
programming and broadcasting activities by 14.2 per cent. A
decrease by 4.5 per cent was registered in motion picture, video
and TV programme production, music publishing activities, and
in publishing activities by 2.6 per cent.
The total turnover index in transportation, storage and post,
calculated on the basis of seasonally adjusted data, increased
by 5.9 per cent compared to the last quarter of 2020. An
increase was observed in all activities in the sector, the
leaders being air transport with a 14.9 per cent increase and
warehousing and support activities for transportation with 13.7
per cent.
The total turnover index for information and communication
increased by 9.1 per cent compared to the fourth quarter of
2020. The largest rise was observed in motion picture, video and
TV programme production, music publishing activities (35.2 per
cent) and computer programming, consultancy and related
activities (15.9 per cent). A decrease by 1.8 per cent was seen
in telecommunications.
In other business services the highest growth, by 49.2 per cent,
compared with the previous quarter was registered in travel
agency, tour operator and other reservation service and related
activities. A decrease was seen in advertising and market
research by 3.0 per cent and cleaning activities by 0.6 per
