Michael League of Snarky Puppy Opens Sofia's A to Jazz Festival

Sofia, June 7 (BTA) - The tenth edition of the A to Jazz
festival will take place in Sofia's South Park 2 on June 9-11,
the organizers informed on Monday.

This year, the festival has attracted artists from Bulgaria, the
USA, Britain, the Netherlands, Greece, Turkey and Guadeloupe.

Among the headliners are Bokante, an international music
ensemble of eight musicians from four continents, including
four-time Grammy winner Michael League, bandleader of Snarky
Puppy. They will be promoting their best-selling and
Grammy-nominated album What Heat (2020).

The second evening of the festival will pay tribute to late
Bulgarian jazz maestro Milcho Leviev. Antoni Donchev Quartet,
David Lynch (USA) and Human Touch (Greece), together with Vicky
Almazidu and Theodosii Spassov are presenting their project
"Milcho Leviev Forever", comprising the legend's last jazz
arrangements of emblematic musical works, recorded in the album
Sonata 57, released posthumously in 2021.

The third and final night of the festival will be headlined by
Jose James. He is coming to Sofia with his new formation to
present his two latest albums, released in 2020 and 2021,
specially to the "phenomenal Bulgarian audience", to use his
words.

Stunning ethno-jazz performer Burcu Karadag is coming from
Istanbul to take part in the fest, together with her quintet.

This year's edition of A to Jazz pays special attention to young
Bulgarian artists and their latest production, created amid the
 challenges of the coronavirus crisis.

The festival's additional attractions include jam sessions, the
children's educational programme A to Jazz Kids, morning yoga
activities and a training area.

The entry will be free of charge. A to Jazz is being organized
under the auspices of the Sofia Municipal Council, with the
support of Sofia Municipality, the national fund Culture, the
America for Bulgaria Foundation and the Turkish embassy in
Bulgaria.

The last edition of the festival reached some 50 million people
around the world, thanks to the partnership invitation from
leading jazz and classical music TV channel Mezzo which filmed
and aired parts of the event.
