Blue Flag for
Twenty-five Years
Bourgas, on the Black Sea, June 25 (BTA) - "When they see the Blue Flag waving people feel sure the beach is environment-friendly, the water is pure and services are safe according to standard. The flag shows that all requirements have been met," Dines beach manager Nikolai Yankov told BTA. The beach has been the proud bearer of the prestigious international certificate for 25 consecutive years, one of Bulgaria's top in this ranking according to the Bulgarian Blue Flag Movement.
Even before he had taken up the management of the beach, Dunes had been waving a Blue Flag, the concessionaire said. He decided to continue the tradition, for the beach should be up to all standards for quality and cleanness. Besides, foreign tourists demand the Blue Flag as it guarantees quality, Yankov said.
The beach is some 450 m long, with five lifeguard posts with two lifeguards each at every 100 m. The beach is divided into two - one for the five-hotel complex with 1,310 rooms and another for other visitors, equipped with about 90 lounge chairs. This year's prices have been halved - 4 leva per beach umbrella and just as much for a lounge chair. There is also a freely accessible zone.
Access to disabled and beach umbrellas in a special lot have also been provided. There are also two playgrounds for the kids. There is a medical facility with an ambulance for emergency c cases. Dunes is also equipped with a parking lot and a catering establishment by the beach.
Offered water attractions include jet skis, yachts, canoes and surfing, among others.
Dunes is located 40 km south of Bourgas and 7 km north of Sozopol. Surrounded by greenery and tall trees, it is part of the Dunes resort, a holiday village with well-developed infrastructure. The beach strip surrounds a large shallow bay with dunes right up to the sea.
The first Bulgarian beach to be awarded the Blue Flag was one in Sunny Beach in 1995. A year later, Dunes and Golden Sands beacher were distinguished, but the latter was not consistent in carrying the flag over the years, the Bulgarian Blue Flag Movement said./RY/BR
