Project Pays Tribute to Life, Art of World Famous Artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude
September 1 (BTA) - Exhibitions, special editions,
lectures, films and educational events are part of a project by
the Sofia Town Hall which pays tribute to the life and art of
Bulgarian-born artist Christo and his French wife and
collaborator Jeanne-Claude, the local authorities said.
Posters from the museum collection of the National Art Gallery
which follow chronologically the creative evolution of Christo
and Jeanne-Claude will be presented at the Boris' Garden between
September 2 and 15 and at the Crystal Garden between September
7 and 24.
A retrospective exhibition, entitled "Christo and Jeanne-Claude.
Life. Works, Projects", of photographs by Wolfgang Volz and
curator Matthias Koddenberg will open at the Sofia City Art
Gallery on September 8. Some of the most famous projects by
Christo and Jeanne-Claude will be on display until November 7
along with unique photographs that captured their life.
A highlight on the programme will be lectures by Sophie Duplaix,
chief curator at the Centre Pompidou, a personal friend of
Christo and Jeanne Claude and a researcher of their work as well
as that of artist Luchezar Boyadjiev.
A cultural and educational programme, dedicated to the art of
Christo and Jeanne-Claude, is organized by the Art Affairs and
Documents Foundation, Goethe Institut and the Children's
Architectural Artshop. Its aim is to present in an accessible
language and begin a discussion on the art of Christo and
Jeanne-Claude and their connection with Bulgaria.
Bulgarian graffiti artist Nasimo will create a memorial mural on
the front of the Sofia High School of Mathematics, dedicated to
Christo and Jeanne-Claude.
On September 10 the Master of Art Festival will pay tribute to
