Netherlands Acting Ambassador
to Svishtov
Sofia, September 9 (BTA) - Sports is a great diplomacy tool, especially when it is football for children in the small Bulgarian town, Svishtov. That is why Jurrien van der Horst, Acting Ambassador of the Netherlands in Bulgaria, gladly accepted the invitation of Football Club Academic Svishtov to join their children football camp on September 7-9, 2021. The Ambassador was accompanies by an Dutch coach of Coerver Coaching Academy in Amsterdam.
The children football camp and tournament gathered over 200 children aged 5-14 from the region. Improving their football skills is only one of the results from the camp. The Dutch methodology thought children, trainers and parents how to interact in a multiethnic ethnic environment.
Rainel Woerdings, experienced football coaching expert helped Svishov trainers to improve their skills and methods working with young players. Coerver Coaching is a Dutch independent football education, delivering skill based football coaching in 47 countries across the globe. The academy has a Bulgarian partner and since 2019 supports the development of Football Club Academic Svishtov.
This was the first official visit of a Netherlands diplomat to the town of Svishtov. Additional to the participation in the children football camp, the programme included a meeting with Gencho Genchev, Mayor of Svishtov, and Prof. Mariyana Bozhinova, Rector of Svishtov Academy, where the Acting Ambassador discussed local economy, tourism and demography.
Naturally, Jurrien van der Horst did not miss the opportunity to see more from Svishtov, the Danube town famous with its reach historical and cultural heritage. First stop was the ancient Roman fortress Nove, followed by Aleko Konstantinov Museum and for finale a special wine tasting session in the local winery, kindly guided by Hristo Tzetanov, chairman of the football club board and local entrepreneur.
Children Football Camp in Svishtov was co-organized by Football Club Academic Svishtov and Coerver Bulgaria with the financial support of the Netherlands embassy. /LN/
