Another 220 Teachers Skilled, Reskilled under National Programme
October 1 (BTA) - Another 220 teachers are acquiring or
expanding their qualifications thanks to the Motivated Teachers
National Programme, which has been funding educators' training
since 2019, the Bulgarian Education Ministry said in a press
release on Thursday. A total of 119 professionals of various
economic sectors are attending university courses in order to
qualify for a teacher licence, and 86 of them have already been
appointed at various schools.
Another 101 working educators will attend universities in the
2021/2022 academic year so as to be able to teach a subject
other than the one in which they originally majored. A total of
489 teachers were reskilled in this way in 2019-2021. The idea
is to provide qualified staff for small schools, where one
person usually teaches several subjects.
As many as 788 teachers have joined the school education system
through the programme over the last three years, and they now
work in 20 administrative regions countrywide.
The three-year Motivated Teachers Programme will continue in
2022. Its total budget is 3 million leva. The idea is to address
the understaffing of the school system, where mainly teachers
of natural sciences, English, information technologies and
primary-school teachers and teachers of children with special
educational needs are in demand, the Ministry said. RY/BR/LG
