Governor Stoyanova Opens
4th Banking Forum on Future of Money
Sofia, October 20 (BTA) - Opening the 4th Banking and Financial Forum on the future of money here on Wednesday, Bulgarian National Bank Deputy Governor Nina Stoyanova said that new technologies change the finance sector by creating various financial products in a serious and strong competitive environment. The event was organized by the Manager magazine.
In Stoyanova's words, the role of banking regulators is to support and be the catalyst for processes in order to draw the most out of the new services' potential and to have secure and strong payment solutions. The dymanics in Bulgaria are the same as in Europe thanks to the introduction of innovations and to market participants' wish to be close to their clients, she said.
She also said that an increase in e-trade and online payments has been registered. This, however, is linked to the security of payments, she went on to say. "When we talk about the future of payment security, new technologies are once again involved," she noted. The ever increasing use of biometric data ensures greater security. New types of fraud on the market will be studied and a wider use of electronic identification and of solutions related to certification services, Stoyanova told the forum.
Mobile devices are ever more often used to make payments through digital cards or e-banking applications, thus becoming a software POS terminal and making bank payments easier for traders and clients, the BNB Deputy Governor said. She also said there is a new service on the Bulgarian market where money is transferred from one mobile phone number to another.
