EBRD Upgrades Forecast for Economic
Growth in Region; Bulgaria's Estimate
Drops to 4.2% for 2021
London, November 4 (BTA) - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has upgraded its forecast for the economic growth in the region in which it operates to 5.5 per cent in 2021, according to the latest Regional Economic Perspectives report published on Thursday on the website of the London-based institution.
The document examines the situation in nearly 40 emerging market economies. Although this year's estimate has been revised by 1.3 percentage points up from June (4.2 percent), the EBRD warns of serious threats ahead. The expected rate for 2022 has been reduced by 0.1 percentage points to 3.8 per cent.
The forecast for Bulgaria for this year has decreased by 0.3 percentage points to 4.2 per cent, and for next year it has been raised by 0.4 percentage points to 4.4 per cent. The EBRD warns that there are risks of a downward trend for Bulgaria, including due to the low vaccination rate and the ongoing political crisis. The institution points out in the general part of its report that the mortality rate per million is particularly high in Bulgaria, Montenegro and Romania.
GDP in the Western Balkans is expected to increase by 6.4 per cent in 2021 and by 4 per cent in 2022.
The economies of Estonia and Turkey are expected to grow the most - by 9 per cent in 2021. RY/DT
