Draft Labour Legislation Meeting
EU Requirements
Sofia, December 1 (BTA) - Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Labour and Social Policy Minister Galab Donev conferred here on Wednesday with North Macedonia's Labour and Social Policy Minister Jagoda Shahpaska.
"Bulgaria will provide expert assistance to the Republic of North Macedonia in drafting labour and health-and-safety-at-work legislation in line with EU requirements," Donev told the guest, quoted by his Ministry in a press release. The two agreed that in this way Bulgaria will support its southwestern neighbour in its progress towards EU accession.
Sharing experience in drafting the statutory instruments will be a part of a programme of cooperation in employment and social policy for the 2022-2024 period which the two countries will draw up.
The host briefed Shahpaska on the measures that the Bulgarian Government is taking to cushion the effects of the pandemic crisis on employment, businesses and families. Thanks to these measures, 135,000 job losses have been prevented and the unemployment rate in this country has hit a historic low of 4.8 per cent, the Deputy PM emphasized.
The sides exchanged experience on measures to promote the employment of young and economically inactive people, the projects for subsidized employment and unemployment reduction, and the creation of conditions for constructive dialogue with the representative organizations of employers and employees.
Donev expressed the hope that the two countries will continue to cooperate in the area of labour migration by signing an agreement on its regulation so as to ease their citizens' access to the labour market. VE/LG
