Project for Underwater Control Contributing to Resilence at Sea Goes under Implementation
December 6 (BTA) - A project entitled "Comprehensive
Underwater Intervention Information and Support System" (CUIIS)
has gone under implementation, now that a grant financing
agreement with the European Commission was signed on December 2,
the Bulgarian Defence Ministry said in a press release on
Monday.
The purpose of the project, which is part of the European
Defence Industrial Development Programme (EDIDP), focuses on
underwater technologies for physical support and recovery of
divers by building a command, control, communications and
information (C4I) mission system for underwater management,
underwater monitoring, situational awareness, positioning,
navigation and manned-unmanned teaming, involving the teaming of
a large number of divers and underwater unmanned vehicles
(UUV).
The three-year project has been awarded to a public-private
consortium of six research institutes and universities and 12
private companies in seven EU Member States: Bulgaria, France,
Denmark, Poland, Italy, Romania and Finland. The Bulgarian
participants are the Prof. Tsvetan Lazarov Defence Institute
(project coordinator), the Space Research and Technology
Institute, the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy, Bianor Services
EOOD, Techno Logica EAD and Waverest EOOD. The Bulgarian Navy
and the Military Medical Academy share in the effort with a team
of experts. MT/LG
