Koyna Ruseva Is Unrecognizable as
the Devil in The Master and Margarita
in Sofia's Mladezhki Theatre

Sofia, December 10 (BTA) - Famous Bulgarian actress Koyna Ruseva is playing Woland in The Master and Margarita. The play directed by Nikolay Polyakov is opening Saturday night at Sofia's Mladezhki Theatre.

This dynamic and glamorous play features over 30 characters wearing more than 80 different costumes in total, said a spokesperson for the theatre.

Koyna Ruseva will be close to unrecognizable in the role of Woland, who is in fact Lucifer. The story follows the devil, who shapeshifted into a human and went to Moscow to see how he would like the Soviet regime. He proceeds to cause numerous unfortunate events, one of them being the execution of Mikhail Alexandrovich Berlioz.

31-year-old Raya Peeva is playing Margarita. In 2012 she received the prestigious Icarus Award for her debut role in Patrick Marber's play Closer. She has been a part of the Mladezhki Theatre since 2015, acting in plays such as Ivanov by Anton Chekhov, Love Song by John Kolvenbach, Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, The Coin by Boian Kracholov. She is also known for her parts in films (The Singing Shoes and Pistol, Suitcase and Three Stinking Barrels).

The play, based on Mikhail Bulgakov's novel of the same name, is opening on the 130th anniversary of writer's year of birth.

The translation is by Lilyana Minkova, stage design by Venelin Shurelov, costumes by Elitsa Georgieva, music by Asen Avramov and choreography by Aleksandar Mandzhukov. NZ
